"Helping you Honor the Past and Prepare for the Future"

Central Alabama Estate Planning Lawyer

Writing a will can appear a difficult and complex process. It is uncomfortable to consider a day when you will no longer be living and to think about how your family should handle your estate. At the Birmingham metro area law office of William G. Nolan, I help clients look at their personal situations, financial circumstances and their hearts to find the answers to their estate planning needs.

Contact me to discuss your estate plan with an experienced Alabama elder law attorney.

As an experienced estate planning attorney, I help clients determine the most effective and economical method for preserving wealth, honoring the past and passing legacies on to future generations. I assist clients in establishing their decisions in living wills as well as simple and complex wills. Learn more:

  • Simple wills: Many people believe estate planning is not important when they have few assets. However, without a will or other estate planning instrument, the Probate Court will determine how to transfer inheritances to family members - which may or may not be how you would have wished. Even if you have a small estate, I can help you draft a simple will which designates future beneficiaries and what they receive.
  • Complex wills: I work with clients to understand all of the needs which should be addressed in a last will and testament. For many people, a more complex will is needed to name guardians for minor children, establish trusts for minor children, transfer property to charitable organizations or other complex needs.
  • Living wills: Unlike a last will and testament, a living will is used while you are still alive. A living will becomes effective at a point in which doctors have determined that you can no longer make decisions regarding your care on your own. A living will instructs doctors and loved ones the type of care you wish to receive - breathing tubes, feeding tubes, respirators or other life sustaining means.

There is no single cookie cutter estate plan which fits the needs of each client. I work with clients one-on-one to create individualized wills and estate plans which meet their personal needs.
